Breedlove commanded Pecola to get to the wash and take it to the house. Breedlove went to the little girl to comfort her. Breedlove goes to Pecola and slapped her across the face a couple of times. Breedlove walked back into the kitchen to see what happened. Pecola stretched towards the cobbler to touch it and she accidently tilted the cobbler. Frieda warned the girls that the cobbler was still hot. Frieda, Claudia, and Pecola moved towards the berry cobbler. Frieda whispered about the berry cobbler to Pecola and Claudia. Breedlove and Frieda noticed a berry cobbler on the counter near the stove. Breedlove a nickname while Pecola called her mother Mrs. Claudia was highly upset about this because of the little girl calling Mrs. The little girl asked where вЂњPollyвЂќ was at and the girls were confused about the name. Breedlove left from the kitchen, a little girl with a pink sunback dress. Breedlove told Pecola, Frieda, and Claudia to stay in the kitchen as she goes to the wash. Breedlove questioned who other girls in the kitchen were and Pecola responded by saying the other girls were Frieda and Claudia, Mrs. Breedlove as she walked into the kitchen. On the other hand, the girls entered the kitchen of the house and saw Mrs. Frieda and Claudia argued otherwise, especially after a bottle being thrown at them from Miss Marie. Pecola explained Maginot Line was Miss Marie and how nice Miss Marie was to her. After the greetings, the girls got into an argument about Maginot Line. When Frieda and Claudia saw Pecola sitting on steps of the white house, they happily greeted Pecola. Frieda and Claudia went the PecolaвЂ™s mother job. After that event, Frieda was upset and determined to get the whiskey. Maginot Line laughed as Frieda and Claudia escaped from the house. Maginot Line responded by throwing a bottle at Frieda and Claudia. Maginot Line asked why and Frieda boldly responded by saying Mrs. Maginot Line offered Frieda and Claudia to come to the house to wait for Pecola but Frieda told Maginot Line that they werenвЂ™t allowed to come in the house. Pecola was at her motherвЂ™s job passed the lake at big white house with flowers in the front. Maginot Line talked to them and told them Pecola wasnвЂ™t home.

When Frieda and Claudia arrived to the house, they met Maginot Line as she was sitting on the second-story porch. The two girls decided to go PecolaвЂ™s house to see if she was home. Frieda and Claudia believed Pecola can get whiskey from Cholly. Claudia and Frieda devised a plan to prevent Frieda from being вЂњruinedвЂќ and obese by drinking whiskey. Frieda thought being вЂњruinedвЂќ will cause her to be obese. Additionally, being вЂњruinedвЂќ could mean a woman who had done wrongful actions within a community. Frieda began to cry again because of the thought of being вЂњruinedвЂќ which can imply a female whoвЂ™s been physical or mentally harmed. MacTeer was planned to take Frieda to the doctorвЂ™s to see if Frieda was вЂњruinedвЂќ. Frieda ran to her mother and father to tell what Mr. Henry grabbed her arm she was able to escape. Henry touching on her breast and being aggressive during this incident.

Claudia asked what happened and how she felt about what Mr. Claudia started to ask questions of curiosity instead of questions of concern to Frieda.

Frieda was crying about being sexually harassed by Mr. Claudia then went to find Frieda and saw Frieda crying in the bedroom.

This chapter was short, the chapter started with Claudia watching her mother doing cleaning and singing in the house.
